KeswickKeswick today is the main town in the northern part of Lake District. Located overlooking Derwentwater it is one the most popular visitor locations in England and is well provided with a wide range of hotel and other accommodation types. In past centuries, however, Keswick was a centre of industry, especially mining. Lead, slate and graphite in the nearby hills were substantial providers of employment for many generations. Little of this now remains, although there are interesting exhibitions both at local mining sites and in the old pencil factory. Close to the lake is an excellent theatre which puts on stage drama of both traditional and modern varieties.
