Ambleside

Ambleside is a popular town at the head of Windermere. There is a good variety of accommodation to be found in the area, ranging from affordable bed & breakfast to luxury full-service hotels.

Ambleside is very convenient place to stay for a Lake District holiday. It has good communications to many areas of the National Park. It is at the head of the largest of the lakes, Windermere, and just a few miles to the north are the beautiful Grasmere and Rydal Water. To the west roads lead up to Elterwater and the Langdales, and across to Esthwaite Water, Tarn Hows and Coniston Water. The road over Kirkstone Pass quickly brings you to Brothers Water and Ullswater.

The options for walking are many, both at low level such as a light stroll up the River Rothay toward Rydal, or higher into the mountains. Below is a view of Windermere from Loughrigg , with the Waterhead jetty visible at mid-left.
